After a day full of travel we made it to La Paz! This weekend was full of connecting flights and tram rides.
The biggest part of today was experiencing an extremely high altitude for the first time. La Paz is the highest capital in the world at an altitude over 3,500m above sea level. With that said, I immediately felt the change as soon as we landed. The group as a whole became instantly weak and felt dizzy. The altitude had taken its toll on us quickly. A small flight of stairs felt like a climb up a towering mountain. Any big movement I made caused me to spiral into a dizzy spell where I then had to take a minute to rest and catch my breath. I learned that drinking tons of water helps a lot. After going through a few bottles of water I felt much better.
We are spending the night at Onkel Inn which are sleep boxes in the La Paz airport. They are cozy hostile style rooms where we can get a few hours of sleep before boarding our 10am flight to Rurrenabaque. Rurrenabaque is where we will be spending the majorly of our time this week. It is also sea level so we all should be feeling back to normal tomorrow as soon as we land!
